High Atlas Nomads

The High Atlas Mountains of Morocco are home to many nomadic communities living there for centuries. One aspect of this way of life is nomadism, which involves moving from place to place with livestock in search of fresh pasture and water.

The nomads of the High Atlas Mountains are primarily Berber people who live in tents made of woven goat hair.  These portable tents are easy to set up and take down, making them ideal for a nomadic lifestyle.  The nomads typically move with their herds of sheep, goats, and sometimes camels, depending on the season and the availability of water and pasture.

Life as a nomad in the High Atlas Mountains can be challenging, but it is also gratifying.  The nomads have a solid connection to the land and the natural world, and their way of life is closely tied to the rhythms of the seasons.  They have a deep knowledge of the plants and animals of the mountains, and they use this knowledge to survive and thrive in a harsh and unforgiving landscape.
